Oh! Wow! Lord, the psalmist wanted to tell all the people about You (v. 3).

The psalmist said the Lord was great and greatly to be praised (v. 4).  He said the Lord made the heavens (v. 5). He said honor and majesty were before the Lord and strength and beauty were in the Lord’s sanctuary (v. 6).

We believers should feel the same way about the Lord.  Additionally we should recognize and tell others about the Lord’s glory and strength (v. 7-8).   We should worship the Lord (v. 9).

Oh! Wow! Lord, one day You will come to judge the earth (v. 9).

The psalmist praised God for His great and awesome name (v. 3a). The psalmist also said God was holy (v. 3b, 9); established equity and executed justice and righteousness (v. 4).

We too should praise God’s great and awesome name.  If we claim God as our Father we need to live worthy of the family name. We can do this by respecting God’s name and by giving Him praise with our words and our actions (v. 5).

Psalm 100 Theme

God’s Presence (v. 2).

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, this psalmist encouraged us to shout for joy to the Lord (v. 1).

Something to think about

This psalm should encourage us to know that the Lord is God. And that it is God who has made us and we belong to God. We are His people, the sheep of His pasture (v. 3). This psalm should encourage us to enter into God’s gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise. And to give thanks to God and bless His name. (v. 4). We need to do this because the Lord is good and His loving kindness endures forever and His faithfulness endures to all generations (v. 5).

Something to experience

Do you and I always willingly and joyfully come into God’s presence, or are we just going through the motions sometimes. I have on occasion, have you?

Psalm 100:1 Shout for joy to the Lord, all you lands!

Psalm 100:2 Serve the Lord with gladness.  Come before His presence with singing.

Psalm 100:3 Know that the Lord, He is God.  It is He who has made us, and we are His.  We are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.

Psalm 100:4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, and bless His name.

Psalm 100:5 For the Lord is good.  His loving kindness endures forever, His faithfulness to all generations.

Prayer

Lord, I pray we will proclaim Your salvation from day to day (Psalm 96:2).  Lord, I pray we will declare Your glory among the nations, Your marvelous works among all the people (Psalm 96:3).  Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne (Psalm 97:2). The heavens declare Your righteousness (Psalm 97:6). Lord, preserve our souls.  Deliver us from the wicked (Psalm 97:10). Lord, You have done marvelous things (Psalm 98:1).  Lord, thank You for judging us fairly (Psalm 98:9).
