Psalm 91 Theme

Protection from danger (v. 1).

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, You are our Refuge and our Fortress and we can trust You (v. 2).

Something to think about

The psalmist had faith that God would protect him (v. 3-4).

Something to experience

If we have set our love on the Lord, He will deliver us. (v. 14a).   The Lord will set us on high because we have known His name (v. 14b).  When we call on the Lord, He will answer us; He will be with us in our trouble; He will deliver us and He will honor us (v. 15).    The Lord will satisfy us with long life and show us His salvation (v. 16).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 91:1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

Psalm 91:2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my Refuge and my Fortress; my God, in whom I trust.”

Psalm 91:3-4 For He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the deadly pestilence.  He will cover you with His feathers.  Under His wings you will take refuge.  His faithfulness is your Shield and Rampart.

Psalm 91:14-16 14 “Because he has set his love on Me, therefore I will deliver him. I will set him on high, because he has known My name.  15 He will call on Me, and I will answer him.  I will be with him in trouble.  I will deliver him, and honor him.  16 I will satisfy him with long life, and show him My salvation.”

Psalm 92 Theme

Thankful and Faithful (v. 1-2).

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, how great are Your works.

Something to think about

Like the palm tree, the righteous shall stand tall and live long (v. 12a). Like the cedar, the righteous shall be solid, strong and immovable (v. 12b).

Something to experience

We need to be sure we place our faith firmly in God to experience a life that is upright, strong and unmoved by life’s varying circumstances (v. 13-14).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 92:1-2 1 It is a good thing to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to Your name, Most High,  to proclaim Your loving kindness in the morning, and your faithfulness every night,

Psalm 92:4-5 For You, O Lord, have made me glad through Your work.  I will triumph in the works of Your hands.  How great are Your works, O Lord! …

Psalm 92:12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree. He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

Psalm 92:13-14 They are planted in the Lord’s house.  They will flourish in our God’s courts. 14 They will still produce fruit in old age.  They will be full of sap and green,

Psalm 93 Theme

God’s unchanging and almighty nature.

Response

Oh! Wow! You, Lord reign.  You are clothed in majesty (v. 1).

Something to think about

The Lord is armed with strength.  The Lord created a world that cannot be moved (v. 1).  The Lord always has been. He has always existed (v. 2).

Something to experience

The key to the Lord’s eternal reign is His holiness (Psalm 93:5).  God will never do anything that is not morally perfect.  Our desire to be holy (dedicated to God and morally clean) is our only suitable response to the One and Only True God.  God says in Leviticus 19:1-2 “Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.”

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 93:1 The Lord reigns! He is clothed with majesty! The Lord is armed with strength.  The world also is established.  It can’t be moved.

Psalm 93:2 Your throne is established from long ago.  You Lord are from everlasting.

Psalm 93:5 Your statutes stand firm.  Holiness adorns Your house, O Lord, forever more.

Psalm 94 Theme

God’s people versus the wicked (v. 1-6).

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Your judgment will be founded on righteousness (v. 15).

Something to think about

Since God is a holy and just God, the wicked will not prevail (v. 16-17, 23).

Something to experience

We, God’s people, will be delivered from the severe punishment awaiting the wicked (v. 12-14, 22).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 94:1-6 1 O Lord, You God to whom vengeance belongs, You God to whom vengeance belongs, shine out.  Rise up, You judge of the earth.  Pay back the proud what they deserve.  O Lord, how long will the wicked, how long will the wicked triumph?  They pour out arrogant words.  All the evildoers boast.  They break your people in pieces, O Lord, and afflict Your heritage.  They kill the widow and the alien, and murder the fatherless.

Psalm 94:12-14 12 Blessed is the man whom you discipline, O Lord, and teach out of Your law, 13 that You may give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit is dug for the wicked.  14 For the Lord won’t reject His people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.

Psalm 94:15 For judgment will return to righteousness.  All the upright in heart shall follow it.

Psalm 94:16-17 16 Who will rise up for me against the wicked?   Who will stand up for me against the evildoers?  17 Unless the Lord had been my help, my soul would have soon lived in silence.

Psalm 94:22 But the Lord has been my high tower, my God, the rock of my refuge.

Psalm 94:23 He has brought on them their own iniquity, and will cut them off in their own wickedness.  The Lord, our God, will cut them off.

Psalm 95 Theme

An invitation to worship God.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, You are the Rock of our Salvation (v. 1).

Something to think about

The Lord is a great God, a great King above all gods (v. 3).  The Lord not only owns the earth He made it (v. 4-5).

Something to experience

We need to come before the Lord with thanksgiving.  We need to extol Him with songs (v. 2).  We need to worship and bow down to Him. We need to kneel before the Lord, our Maker for He is our God.   We are the people of His pasture and the sheep in His care.  Seek to hear His voice today (v. 6-7).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 95:1 Oh come, let’s sing to the Lord.  Let’s shout aloud to the Rock of our Salvation!

Psalm 95:2 Let’s come before His presence with thanksgiving.  Let’s extol Him with songs!

Psalm 95:3 For the Lord is a great God, a great King above all gods.

Psalm 95:4-5 In His hand are the deep places of the earth.  The heights of the mountains are also His.  The sea is His, and He made it.  His hands formed the dry land.

Psalm 95:6-7 Oh come, let’s worship and bow down.  Let’s kneel before the Lord, our Maker, for He is our God.  We are the people of His pasture, and the sheep in His care.  Today, oh that you would hear His voice!
