Psalm 6 Theme

God is able to rescue us.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Your love never fails (verse 4b).

Something to think about

The Psalmist knew without mercy we couldn’t stand.  God is a God of justice and mercy.

Something to experience

When we are honest with God we can turn our attention from ourselves to Him and His mercy (verse 9).

Scripture to hide in your heart

Psalm 6:4 Return, Lord. Deliver my soul, and save me for Your loving kindness’ sake.

Psalm 7 Theme

A request for justice against those who make slanderous comments.  God is the perfect judge.  God will punish those who persecute the innocent.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, You can save me from all who pursue me (verse 1).

Something to think about

The proper response to slander is prayer, not attempting to get even.  God says He will avenge, He will repay (see Romans 12:19).

Something to experience

Instead of trying to get even, ask God to defend you.  I ask Him to bring justice.  Ask Him to restore your reputation (Psalm 7:9).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 7:1O Lord, my God, I take refuge in You.   Save me from all those who pursue me, and deliver me.

Psalm 7:9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous; their minds and hearts are searched by the righteous God.

Psalm 8 Theme

God is great.  God, the all-powerful Creator cares for His people.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! (verses 1, 9)

Something to think about

When we look at God’s great creation we recognize our smallest (verse 5).

Something to experience

But by recognizing our smallest we see realistically God’s size. And we can then properly respect Him (verse 4).

Scripture to hide in your heart

Psalm 8:1 Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens!

Psalm 9 Theme

God always hears our cries for help.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, You are always available to help us (verse 4).

Something to think about

The Lord will reign forever.  He has made ready His throne for judgment.

Something to experience

Because we believers know His name we can put our trust in the Lord.  And He will not forsake those of us who seek Him (verse 10).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 9:4 For You Lord have maintained my just cause.  You sit on the throne judging righteously.

Psalm 9:10 Those who know Your name will put their trust in You, for You, Lord have not forsaken those who seek You.

Psalm 10 Theme

Although God may seem absent at times, we can be assured He is aware of every injustice committed.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, You see trouble and grief and yet You wait (verse 13).

Something to think about

But God is not ignoring the trouble.  He is considering it (verse 14).

Something to experience

When we commit our ways to the Lord He will help us (verses 17-18).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 10:13 Why does the wicked person condemn the Lord, and say in his heart, “God won’t call me into account?”

Psalm 10:14 But You Lord see trouble and grief.  You consider it to take it into Your hand.  You help the victim and the fatherless.

Psalm 10:17-18 Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble.  You will prepare their heart.  You will cause Your ear to hear, to judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that man who is of the earth may terrify no more.

Prayer

Lord, I ask you to deliver our soul and save us for Your loving kindness’ sake (Psalm 6:4).  Lord, I pray we will take refuge in You.  I ask You to save us from all those who pursue us. I ask You to deliver us (Psalm 7:1).  Lord, I pray we will live righteous lives before You.  Lord, I ask You to search our minds and hearts (Psalm 7:9).  Lord, Your name is majestic (Psalm 8:1).  Lord, You sit on Your throne and judge righteously (Psalm 9:4). Lord, I pray those of us who know Your name will put our trust in You.  Thank You Lord for not forsaken those of us who seek You (Psalm 9:10).  Thank You Lord for seeing our trouble and our grief and helping us. Thank You for helping the victims and the fatherless (Psalm 10:14).  Thank You Lord for hearing the desire of the humble.  Thank You for preparing the heart of the humble.  Thank You for hearing and taking care of the fatherless and the oppressed (Psalm 10:17-18).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.
