Psalm 41 Theme

A prayer for God’s mercy when feeling sick or abandoned (v. 1).

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, You are still faithful to us believers even when we’re feeling sick or feel we’ve been deserted (v. 2-3).

Something to think about

God will protect, preserve, bless, sustain and restore those of us who are believers (v. 2-3).

Something to experience

As God has blessed us, we too should bless others (v. 1-2).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 41:1 Blessed is he who considers the poor.  The Lord will deliver him in the day of evil.

Psalm 41:2-3 The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive.  He shall be blessed on the earth, and He will not surrender him to the will of his enemies.

Psalm 41:3 The Lord will sustain him on his sickbed, and restore him from his bed of illness.

Psalm 42 Theme

A thirst for God (v. 2).

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, when we’re lonely or depressed, You are our hope (v. 5).

Something to think about

As the life of a deer depends on water, so our lives depend on God, the Living Water (v. 1)

Something to experience

To relief loneliness and depression meditate on what God has done for you and those you love (v. 8, 11).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 42:1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants after you, God.

Psalm 42:2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.  When shall I come and appear before God?

Psalm 42:5 Why are you in despair, my soul?  Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God!  For I shall still praise Him for the saving help of His presence.

Psalm 42:8 The Lord will command His loving kindness in the daytime.  In the night His song shall be with me: a prayer to the God of my life.

Psalm 43 Theme

Hope in a time of discouragement (v. 5).

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, when we face discouragement, we can still trust You to lift us up (v. 1-2).

Something to think about

Even when we feel rejection and are sad, we can trust the Lord to be our Strength (v. 2).

Something to experience

We can call on the Lord to send forth His light and His truth to guide us (v. 3).  And we can put our hope in Him.  He is our Savior, our Helper and our God (v. 5).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 43:1 Vindicate me, God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation.  Oh, deliver me from deceitful and wicked men.

Psalm 43:2 For you are the God of my Strength. Why have You rejected me?  Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

Psalm 43:3 Oh, send out Your light and Your truth.  Let them lead me.  Let them bring me to Your holy hill, to Your tents.

Psalm 43:5 Why are you in despair, my soul?  Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God!  For I shall still praise Him: my Savior, my Helper, and my God.

Psalm 44 Theme

A plea for victory (v. 1-3).

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, the psalmist was weary (v. 9-16).

Something to think about

The psalmist couldn’t understand why God was allowing them (the Israelites) to experience such discouragement (v. 17-22).

Something to experience

We may feel as this psalmist did.  But we, like the psalmist, can call on the Lord and ask Him to rise up and help us.  We can ask Him to redeem us because of His unfailing love (v. 23-26).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 44:1-3 1 We have heard with our ears, God; our fathers have told us what work You did in their days, in the days of old.  You drove out the nations with Your hand, but You planted them.  You afflicted the peoples, but You spread them abroad.  For they didn’t get the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them; but Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your face, because you were favorable to them.

Psalm 44:23-26 23 Wake up!  Why do You sleep, Lord?  Arise! Don’t reject us forever.  24 Why do You hide Your face, and forget our affliction and our oppression?  25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust.  Our body clings to the earth.  26 Rise up to help us.  Redeem us for Your loving kindness’ sake.

Psalm 45 Theme

Seen as a prophecy about Christ and His bride, the church.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, one day Your Son and His bride, the church will meet (v. 10-11).

Something to think about

God abundantly blesses His Son, our groom (v 2).

Something to experience

One day Christ and we, the church, will meet face to face (v. 14-15).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 45:2  You are the most excellent of the sons of men.  Grace has anointed your lips, therefore God has blessed you forever.

Psalm 45:10-11 10 Listen, daughter, consider, and turn your ear.  Forget your own people, and also your father’s house.  11  So the king will desire your beauty, honor Him, for He is your lord. …

Psalm 45:14-15 14 She shall be led to the king in embroidered work.  The virgins, her companions who follow her, shall be brought to you. 15 With gladness and rejoicing they shall be led.  They shall enter into the king’s palace.

Prayer

Lord, I pray You will preserve us and keep us alive (Psalm 41:2).  Lord, I pray when we are sick You will restore us (Psalm 41:3).  Lord, I pray we will thirst after You and Your Word (Psalm 42:2).  Lord, I pray we will hope in You (Psalm 42:5; 43:5).  Lord, I ask for Your loving kindness to be toward us (Psalm 42:8). Lord, I pray we will hope in and praise You (Psalm 42:11). Lord, when deceitful and wicked men attack us, I ask You to deliver us (43:1). Lord, send Your Light and Your Truth to lead us (Psalm 43:3).  Lord when we are in need, I pray You will rise up to help us and redeem us (Psalm 44:26).  In Christ Jesus name I pray.  AMEN.
