Psalm 26 Theme

Declaring loyalty to God.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, we can stand up to opposition when we are genuinely committed to You.

Something to think about

The Psalmist David wasn’t claiming to be sinless (verse 1) because that is impossible for any human being. He was pleading with God to clear his name of the false charges made against him by his enemies.

Something to experience

We too can ask God to examine us, trusting Him to forgive our sins and clear our record (verse 2-3).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 26:1 Judge me, Lord, for I have walked in my integrity.  I have trusted also in the Lord without wavering.

Psalm 26:2 Examine me, Lord, and prove me.  Try my heart and my mind.

Psalm 26:3 … Your loving kindness is before my eyes.  I have walked in your truth.

Psalm 27 Theme

God offers help for today and hope for the future.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, You are our light and our salvation (verse 1).

Something to think about

The Psalmist David believed God would keep him safe (verse 5).

Something to experience

Just as David did, we can ask God to teach us His way.  We can ask Him to lead us in a straight path.  And we too can be confident of God’s goodness (verses 11, 13).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation.  Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life.  Of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalm 27:5 For in the day of trouble, He (the Lord) will keep me secretly in His pavilion.  In the secret place of His tabernacle, He will hide me.  He will lift me up on a rock.

Psalm 27:11 Teach me Your way, Lord.  Lead me in a straight path, because of my enemies.

Psalm 27:13 I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

Psalm 28 Theme

Prayer to pray when we are surrounded by those who pretend to be our friends.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, You are our real source of fellowship.

Something to think about

The Psalmist David knew there were people who only pretended to be his friends (verse 3).

Something to experience

When trials come into our life, prayer is our best help (verse 6-8).  Prayer keeps us in communication with God, our faithful shepherd (verse 9).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 28:6 Blessed be the Lord, because He has heard the voice of my petitions.

Psalm 28:7 The Lord is my strength and my shield.  My heart has trusted in Him, and I am helped.  Therefore my heart greatly rejoices.  With my song I will thank Him.

Psalm 28:8 The Lord is their strength.  He is a stronghold of salvation to His anointed.

Psalm 28:9 Save Your people, and bless Your inheritance.  Be their shepherd also, and bear them up forever.

Psalm 29 Theme

God reveals His great power in nature.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, we can trust You to give us both strength and peace.

Something to think about

The Psalmist David attributed glory and strength to the Lord (verses 1-2). He said the Lord’s voice was powerful and full of majesty (verse 4). And David said even more about the Lord’s voice (verses 7-9).

Something to experience

The Lord is our King forever.  The Lord will give us strength.  The Lord will bless us, His people, with peace (verse 10).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 29:1-2 Ascribe to the Lord, you sons of the mighty, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.  Ascribe to the Lord the glory due to His name. …

Psalm 29:4 The Lord’s voice is powerful.  The Lord’s voice is full of majesty.

Psalm 29:7-9 The Lord’s voice strikes with flashes of lightning. The Lord’s voice shakes the wilderness. … and strips the forests bare.

Psalm 29:10 The Lord sat enthroned over the Flood.  Yes, the Lord sits as King forever.  The Lord will give strength to His people.  The Lord will bless His people with peace.

Psalm 30 Theme

A celebration of God’s deliverance.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, though earthly security is uncertain, You are always faithful (verses 1-3, 4-5).

Something to think about

Wealth, power and fame can cause a person to believe he doesn’t need God. But this is false security that can have a short life (verses 6-7).

Something to experience

We should be careful not to fall into the trap of false security.  Our only true and lasting security is found in God alone (verses 10-12).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Psalm 30:1 I will extol you, Lord, for You have raised me up, and have not made my foes to rejoice over me.

Psalm 30:2-3 Lord my God, I cried to You, and You have healed me. Lord, You have brought up my soul from Sheol.  You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

Psalm 30:4-5 Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His.  Give thanks to His holy name.  For His anger is but for a moment.  His favor is for a lifetime.

Psalm 30:6-7 As for me, I said in my prosperity, “I shall never be moved.”  You, Lord, when you favored me, made my mountain stand strong; but when You hid Your face, I was troubled.

Psalm 30:10-12 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on me.  O Lord, be my helper.  You have turned my mourning into dancing for me.  You have removed my sackcloth, and clothed me with gladness, to the end that my heart may sing praise to You, and not be silent.  Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever!

Prayer

Lord, I pray we will trust in You without wavering (Psalm 26:1).  Lord, I ask You to examine us, prove us, try our hearts and our minds (Psalm 26:2). Lord, I pray we will walk in Your truth (Psalm 26:3).  Thank You Lord for being our Light and our Salvation. Thank You for being the strength of our life (Psalm 27:1). Lord when we are experiencing troubles I ask You to keep us safe (Psalm 27:5). Lord, teach us Your way, lead us in a straight path (Psalm 27:11).  Thank You Lord for being our Strength and our Shield. May our hearts trust in You (Psalm 28:7). Thank You for being a stronghold of salvation (Psalm 28:8). Lord, I ask You to save us, bless us and be our Shepherd (Psalm 28:9).  Lord, I pray we will ascribe glory to Your name (Psalm 29:1-2). Lord, thank You for giving strength to us Your people.  Thank You for blessing us Your people with peace (Psalm 29:10).  Lord, thank You for healing us and keeping us alive (Psalm 30:2-3). Lord I pray we will sing praises and give thanks to Your holy name (Psalm 30:4-5).  Lord, I ask You to show us mercy.  Thank You for being our Helper. I ask You to turn our mourning into dancing.  I ask You to clothe us with gladness so that our hearts may sing praises to You.  I pray we will give thanks to You forever (Psalm 30:10-12).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.
