Theme Nahum 1

Message to Nineveh (v. 1).

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Your anger was proclaimed against Nineveh (v. 2).

Something to think about

Though God is slow to anger, He will not leave the guilty unpunished (v. 3).  Nobody should defy God (v. 6).

Something to experience

We all should be thankful that God gives us time to repent and trust in Him (v. 7). The relationship we have with God is up to us.  God wants us to experience peace (v. 15).

Scripture to hide in your heart

Nahum 1:1 A revelation about Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

Nahum 1:2 The Lord is a jealous God and avenges. The Lord avenges and is full of wrath. The Lord takes vengeance on His adversaries, and He maintains wrath against His enemies.

Nahum 1:3 The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will by no means leave the guilty unpunished. The Lord has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.

Nahum 1:6 Who can stand before His indignation? Who can endure the fierceness of His anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken apart by Him.

Nahum 1:7 The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who take refuge in Him.

Nahum 1:15 “Behold, on the mountains the feet of Him who brings good news, who publishes peace! Keep your feasts, Judah! Perform your vows, for the wicked one will no more pass through you. He is utterly cut off.”

Theme Nahum 2

Fall of Nineveh.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Nineveh was like a pool being drained (v. 8).

Something to think about

Nineveh repented after hearing Jonah.  But after some time passed, they returned to their sin so God destroyed them (v. 13).

Something to experience

At some point people, cities and nations no longer are given time to turn back. No more messengers will be sent.  We need to warn others to repent before there is no more time (v. 8).

Scripture to hide in your heart

Nahum 2:8 But Nineveh has been from of old like a pool of water, yet they flee away. “Stop! Stop!” they cry, but no one looks back.

Nahum 2:13 “Behold, I am against you,” says the Lord Almighty, “and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword will devour your young lions; and I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers will no longer be heard.”

Theme Nahum 3

Allusion of Nineveh.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, though Nineveh presented herself as beautiful, she was vicious and deceitful on the inside (v. 1-4).

Something to think about

Sometimes a beautiful façade covers lies, seduction and death (v. 1-4). Nobody was saddened by Nineveh’s fall (v. 19).

Something to experience

We should never allow companies, movements or people to entice us to compromise our moral principles.

Scripture to hide in your heart

Nahum 3:1-4 Woe to the bloody city! It is all full of lies and robbery. The prey doesn’t depart. The noise of the whip, the noise of the rattling of wheels, prancing horses, and bounding chariots, the horseman mounting, and the flashing sword, the glittering spear, and a multitude of slain, and a great heap of corpses, and there is no end of the bodies. They stumble on their bodies, because of the multitude of the prostitution of the alluring prostitute, the mistress of witchcraft, who sells nations through her prostitution, and families through her witchcraft.

Nahum 3:19 There is no healing your wound, for your injury is fatal. All who hear the report of you clap their hands over you; for who hasn’t felt your endless cruelty?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for giving us ample opportunities to follow and trust You (Nahum 1).  Lord, I pray we will faithfully share our faith with others (Nahum 2). Lord, I pray we will stay true to Your principles (Nahum 3). In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

“May you and I stay true to God’s principles.” <>< Dona
