In Judges 16 Samson’s desire for a beautiful woman lead him to make some bad choices.

Oh! Wow! Lord, Samson was deceived because he believed Delilah’s lies.

 Something to think about

Samson allowed his desire for Delilah to cloud his common sense.    

Something to experience

We too must be careful.  We need to look beyond each person’s outward appearance and seek their true character.  “See” the real person.

Prayer

Lord I pray we will not allow anyone to talk us into doing wrong (I Corinthians 15:33).  Lord I ask You to help us distinguish between deception and truth (Galatians 6:7).  I pray we will turn from our own plans and draw near to and seek Your plan (Psalm 73:28; James 4:8). Lord I ask You to help us to live worthwhile lives (Proverbs 10:16). In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

In Judges 17 we are told about Israel’s fall into idolatry. In that day Israel had no king and everyone did as they saw fit.

Oh! Wow! Lord though You had given them right standards to live by, they turned their back on You.

Something to think about

During this time period everyone seemed to put his or her own interests first.  Even today many people still reject God’s right way of living. Many people have plans for America that don’t line up with God’s will.

Something to experience

We can refuse to conform to society’s standards by taking God’s commands seriously and applying them to our life.  The tendency to follow the crowd is in all of us but we can choose to draw closer to God and His Word and follow Him.

Prayer

Lord I pray we will not be persuaded to follow after those who do wrong. I pray we will have the courage to say no to plans that are not in our best interest; plans that don’t line up with Your will for America (Psalm 34:14).  I know this is a big request Lord. But I’m going to pray it knowing You’re a big God. I pray all of America will choose to trust and obey You and Your Word (Isaiah 50:10; James 1:22). I pray for the salvation of America (John 3:16). In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.
