In Judges 1:1 Joshua has died and the Israelites need a leader.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, the Israelites had to trust You to lead them.

Something to think about

During this crisis of leadership, Israel had to learn that no matter how powerful and wise Joshua had been, their real leader was God.

Something to experience

We often focus our hope and confidence on our leader, failing to realize that in reality it is God who is in command.  We need to acknowledge God as our commander in chief and avoid the temptation of relying too heavily on human leaders.

Prayer

Lord, I pray we will recognize that You have promised us You will work all things together for our good if we love You and live out Your purpose for our life (Romans 8:28).  Lord, I pray we will not fear what man can do to us for You will be with us (II Chronicles 20:17).  Lord I ask You to give us success (Psalm 118:25).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

************************

In Judges 2 a whole generation of Israelites had died and another generation  grew up who didn’t follow God.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord after all You did for the Israelites their children turned from following You (Judges 2:10-11 and Judges 3:7).

Something to think about

This generation neither knew the Lord nor what He had done for Israel.  They abandoned the faith of their parents and began worshipping the gods of their neighbors.

Something to experience

Even in America the younger generation is turning from following God.  Those of us who are parents need to keep our focus on God.  We need to encourage our children to do the same.  We need to teach them to obey and follow God too.

Prayer

Lord, I know it is never too late to turn from sin and turn to You (Luke 23:40-43).  Lord, I pray we will hear Your call and respond by turning to You (Colossians 3:15). In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.
