In Joshua 16:10 we are told that the Israelites didn’t fully drive out the enemies from the land God had given them.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord though You instructed the Israelites to drive out the evil in the land they were to possess they didn’t.

Something to think about

Because the Israelites didn’t obey the Lord they experienced many problems.  The book of Judges records many of these struggles.

Something to experience

If we don’t obey the Lord we too may experience unsurmountable difficulty.

Prayer

Lord when we are weak in human strength I pray we will turn to You for Your strength (II Corinthians 12:10).  Lord, I pray we will reverently obey You with submissive wonder.  I pray You will dwell with us (Psalm 85:9). Lord, I pray we will not follow after evil but will keep Your commands by honoring and obeying You (Psalm 119:115).  Lord, I pray we will be confident and trust in Your name.  I pray we will rely on You, our God (Isaiah 50:10). Lord, I pray You will indeed be our God and we will be Your people.  I pray we will indeed walk in the way You command us, so that all may be well with us (Jeremiah 7:23).  Lord, I pray we will not only listen to Your Word but we will internalize its meaning and actively and continually obey it (James 1:22).  Lord, I pray we will be blessed and favored by You because we are obeying You (James 1:25).  Lord, I pray Your love will be perfected, completed and reach maturity in us as we are habitually keeping and treasuring Your Word (I John 2:5).  In Your Son, Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

In Joshua 17:3-4, 12-13 Joshua reminded the Israelites that God had commanded Moses to provide women with property (see Numbers 27:1-11).

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord thank You for treating women with equal justice and respect.

Something to think about

Although women did not traditionally inherit property in Israelite society, Moses put justice ahead of tradition and gave five sisters the land they deserved (see Numbers 27:1-11).

Something to experience

Joshua reminded the Israelites that God had Moses add a law that would help women with no brothers inherit property.  Women today should also be treated with equal justice and respect.

Prayer

Lord I pray we will be kind-hearted, sweet-spirited and self-controlled for then according to Your Word You will bless us (Matthew 5:5).  Lord I pray we will treat each other fairly (II Corinthians 8:13-14).  Lord I pray we will show respect for all people (I Peter 2:17).  Lord I pray we will give Your Son first place in our life.  I pray we will always be ready to give account for the hope and the faith within us.  I pray we will share our faith with gentleness and respect toward everyone (I Peter 3:15).  Lord thank You for executing righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed (Psalm 103:6).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

In Joshua 18:3-6 Joshua questioned some of the Israelites about why they were not taking possession of the land God had given them.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord after all You had done for the Israelites they still didn’t trust You to do what You told them You would do.

Something to think about

Joshua asked the Israelites how long were they going to wait before  they began to take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of their fathers, had given them. When they procrastinated they were disobeying the Lord.

Something to experience

Are there times we don’t have something because we haven’t taken what the Lord is offering us?   Do we delay doing a job even though we know there is something to gain when we finish?   When we procrastinate we might be showing a lack of obedience to God too.

Prayer

Lord I pray we will trust in and rely confidently on You with all our heart.  I pray we will not rely on our own insight or understanding.  I pray in all our ways we will know, acknowledge and recognize You. For then Your Word says You will make our path straight and smooth and You will remove obstacles that block our way (Proverbs 3:5-6).
