Isaiah 55 Theme

An Invitation.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, You offer free nourishment for the soul (v. 2).

Something to think about

God’s covenant with David promised a permanent homeland for the Israelites, but Israel didn’t fulfill their part of the agreement.  They didn’t obey God and stay far from idol worship.  God though was still willing to renew the covenant (v. 3).  Because He’s always ready to forgive (v. 6-7).  All God says will accomplish what He wants it to accomplish (v. 10-11).

Something to experience

Because we are co-heirs with the Jewish people, the Lord is willing to forgive us too (v. 6-7).  Just like the Israelites, we cannot know God’s thoughts nor all the plans He has for earth (v. 8-9). But we can know His Word and seek His plans (v. 10-11).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Isaiah 55:2 “Why do you spend money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which doesn’t satisfy?  Listen diligently to Me, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in richness.”

Isaiah 55:3 “Turn your ear, and come to Me.  Hear, and your soul will live.  I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.”

Isaiah 55:6-7 Seek the Lord while He may be found.  Call on Him while He is near.  Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts.  Let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him, (return) to our God, for He will freely pardon.

Isaiah 55:8-9 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not My ways,” says the Lord.  “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

Isaiah 55:10-11 10 For as the rain comes down and the snow from the sky, and doesn’t return there, but waters the earth, and makes it grow and bud, and gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater; 11 so is My Word that goes out of My mouth: it will not return to Me void, but it will accomplish that which I please, and it will prosper in the thing I sent it to do.

Isaiah 56 Theme

Salvation (v. 1).

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, You encourage us to take time to rest and spend time with You (v. 1-2).

Something to think about

Isaiah clearly explained that God’s blessings are for all people, even foreigners and eunuchs who have joined themselves to Him (v. 4-8).

Something to experience

We don’t have the option or right to exclude anyone from God’s family (v. 3).  Whatever our race, God’s blessings are for all who choose Him as their Lord (v. 4-8).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Isaiah 56:1-2 1The Lord says, “Maintain justice and do what is right, for My salvation is near and My righteousness will soon be revealed.  Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who holds it fast; who keeps the Sabbath without profaning it and keeps his hand from doing any evil.”

Isaiah 56:3 Let no foreigner who has joined himself to the Lord speak, saying, “The Lord will surely separate me from His people.”  Do not let the eunuch say, “Behold, I am a dry tree.”

Isaiah 56:4-8 For the Lord says, “To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths, choose the things that please Me, and hold fast to My covenant, I will give them in My house and within My walls a memorial and a name better than of sons and of daughters.  I will give them an everlasting name that will not be cut off.  Also the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord to serve Him, and to love the Lord’s name, to be His servants, everyone who keeps the Sabbath from profaning it, and holds fast My covenant, I will bring these to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer.  Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; for My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.” The Sovereign Lord, who gathers the outcasts of Israel, says, “I will yet gather others to him, in addition to his own who are gathered.”

Isaiah 57 Theme

Unfaithfulness to God.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, sometimes the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil (v. 1-2).

Something to think about

The sorceress, adulterers, and prostitutes were unfaithful to God (v. 11).  So God said He would send them away (v. 13a).

Something to experience

We need to make the Lord our refuge (v. 13b) and He will heal us (v. 19).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Isaiah 57:1-2 1 The righteous perish, and no one lays it to heart.  Merciful men are taken away, and no one considers that the righteous is taken away from the evil. He enters into peace.  They rest in their beds, each one who walks in his uprightness.

Isaiah 57:11 1“Whom have you dreaded and feared, so that you lie, and have not remembered Me, nor laid it to your heart?  Is it because I’ve long been silent that you don’t fear Me?

Isaiah 57:13 “When you cry, let those whom you have gathered deliver you; but the wind will take them. A breath will carry them all away: but he who takes refuge in Me will possess the land, and will inherit My holy mountain.”

Isaiah 57:19 I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace, to him who is far off and to him who is near,” says the Lord; “and I will heal them.”

Prayer

Lord, I pray we will seek nourishment for our soul (Isaiah 55:2).  Lord, I pray we will obey You and stay far from idol worship. Thank You for always being ready to forgive (Isaiah 55:6-7).  Lord, I pray You will accomplish Your Word in our lives (Isaiah 55:10-11). Lord, I pray we will take time to rest and spend time with You (Isaiah 56:1-2).  Lord, I pray we will treat everyone with respect and kindness (Isaiah 56:4-8).  Lord, thank You for being our refuge.  Thank You for healing us (Isaiah 57:19).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

“May you and I seek safety and healing from the Lord.” <>< Dona
