Isaiah 22 Theme

Prophecy concerning Jerusalem.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, because he cared, Isaiah suffered with the people of Jerusalem (v. 4).

Something to think about

Though Jerusalem was going to be attacked they didn’t turn back to God (v. 5). The people of Jerusalem trusted in themselves, their weapons and even pagan neighbors to protect them.  But they didn’t call out for God’s help (v. 11b).  The people of Jerusalem should have repented but they chose instead to have a feast (v. 12-13).

Something to experience

When we face troubles, we need to turn to God.  We need to trust God and His promise of salvation for those who trust Him.

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Isaiah 22:4 Therefore I said, “Look away from me. I will weep bitterly. Don’t labor to comfort me for the destruction of the daughter of my people.”

Isaiah 22:5 “For it is a day of confusion, and of treading down, and of perplexity, from the Lord, the Lord of Armies, in the valley of vision, a breaking down of the walls, and a crying to the mountains.”

Isaiah 22:11 You also made a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the old pool. But you didn’t look to Him (the Lord) who had done this, neither did you have respect for Him who planned it long ago.

Isaiah 22:12-13 12 In that day, the Lord, the Lord of Armies, called to weeping, to mourning, to baldness, and to dressing in sackcloth; 13 and behold, joy and gladness, killing cattle and killing sheep, eating meat and drinking wine: “Let’s eat and drink, for tomorrow we will die.”

Isaiah 23 Theme

Tyre.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Tyre was very wealthy but very evil.

Something to think about

God would destroy Tyre because of their pride.  Pride separates people from God (v. 9).

Something to experience

All true accomplishment comes from God.  We have no reason for pride in our lives.

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Isaiah 23:9 The Lord of Armies has planned it, to stain the pride of all glory, to bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth.

Isaiah 24 Theme

The devastation of earth and its inhabitants (v. 1).

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, a day is coming when the earth will be completely laid waste and totally plundered (v. 3).

Something to think about

Not only will people suffer, but the earth will suffer from the effects of sin and lawlessness too (4-5).

Something to experience

Today we can see sin affecting every aspect of our society so much so that even those faithful to God are suffering (v. 6).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Isaiah 24:1 Behold, the Lord makes the earth empty, makes it waste, turns it upside down, and scatters its inhabitants.

Isaiah 24:3 The earth will be utterly emptied and utterly laid waste; for the Lord has spoken this word.

Isaiah 24:4-5 The earth mourns and fades away. The world languishes and fades away. The lofty people of the earth languish. The earth also is polluted under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, and broken the everlasting covenant.

Isaiah 24:6 Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, and those who dwell therein are found guilty. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men are left.

Prayer

Lord, when we face troubles, I pray we will turn to You.  Lord, I pray we will trust You and Your promise of salvation. Lord, I pray those that are even now suffering because of sin will repent and turn back to You.  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

“May you and I quickly repent when we sin.” <>< Dona
