Isaiah 19 Theme

Egypt.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, You warned Egypt You were coming there (v. 1).

Something to think about

Egyptian would be against Egyptian. Brother would be against brother.  Neighbor would be against neighbor. City would be against city. Kingdom would be against kingdom (v. 2). And this would lead the Egyptians to lose heart (v. 3).  But then Egypt would cry out to the Lord and He would answer them (v. 20).

Something to experience

When citizens, brothers, neighbors, cities and kingdoms are against each other it leads to chaos.  We’re experiencing this here in our nation. But there is hope for believers (joint heirs with Israel – v. 25). Just as there was for Egypt (v. 23-24).

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Isaiah 19:1 The burden of Egypt. “Behold, the Lord rides on a swift cloud, and comes to Egypt. The idols of Egypt will tremble at His presence; and the heart of Egypt will melt within it.”

Isaiah 19:2 “I will stir up the Egyptians against the Egyptians, and they will fight everyone against his brother, and everyone against his neighbor; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.”

Isaiah 19:3 “The spirit of the Egyptians will fail within them. I will destroy their counsel. They will seek the idols, the charmers, those who have familiar spirits, and the wizards.”

Isaiah 19:20 It will be for a sign and for a witness to the Lord of Armies in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to the Lord because of oppressors, and He will send them a savior and a defender, and He will deliver them.

Isaiah 19:23-24 23 In that day there will be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria; and the Egyptians will worship with the Assyrians.  24 In that day, Israel will be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, a blessing within the earth;

Isaiah 19:25 because the Lord of Armies has blessed them, saying, “Blessed be Egypt My people, Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance.”

Isaiah 20 Theme

Egypt and Cush.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, those who trusted in Cush and boasted in Egypt were put to shame (v. 4).

Something to think about

Isaiah was instructed by the Lord to go around stripped and barefoot to show the Egyptians and Cushites what was going to happen to them (v. 3).

Something to experience

God may ask us to do things we don’t understand.  We must obey if we’re sure the guidance is from God (v. 2)

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Isaiah 20:2… the Lord spoke by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, “Go, and loosen the sackcloth from off your waist, and take your sandals from off your feet.” He did so, walking naked and barefoot.

Isaiah 20:3 The Lord said, “As my servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and a wonder concerning Egypt and concerning Ethiopia,

Isaiah 20:4 so the king of Assyria will lead away the captives of Egypt and the exiles of Ethiopia, young and old, naked and barefoot, and with buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.

Isaiah 21 Theme

Babylon, Edom, Arabia.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Babylon, Edom and Arabia were filled with Your enemies.

Something to think about

All Isaiah prophesied was against Babylon, Edom and Arabia.

Something to experience

As believers we need to have watchmen among us.  These watchmen need to warn us of trouble that is coming. Just as Isaiah tried to do in his day.

Scriptures to hide in your heart

Isaiah 21:6 For the Lord said to me, “Go, set a watchman. Let him declare what he sees.”

Isaiah 21:8 He cried like a lion: “Lord, I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime, and every night I stay at my post.”

Psalm 127:1 Unless the Lord builds the house, they who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.
