In II Samuel 4 Ish-Bosheth, Saul’s son, had not been a strong leader.  So he fell apart when he heard Abner, his military leader, had died.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Ish-Bosheth lost what little courage he had.

Something to think about

Ish-Bosheth took his courage from Abner rather than from God. So Ish-Bosheth was left with nothing.  He collapsed under fear.

Something to experience

Don’t let fear paralyze you.  Instead have faith in and trust in God to overcome fear (II Timothy 1:6-8; Hebrews 13:6).

In II Samuel 5 David became king over Israel.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, David waited patiently for the fulfillment of Your promise that he would be king over all of Israel.

Something to think about

David did not become king over all of Israel until he was 37 years old (verses 4-5), although he had been promised the kingdom many years earlier (I Samuel 16:13).

Something to experience

Don’t run ahead of God.  If you feel pressure to have instant success, remember David’s story.  His time of waiting prepared him to be all God wanted him to be.  When you have to wait allow God to build your character.

In II Samuel 6 Michal was not happy when she saw her husband David dancing before the Lord.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, why did Michal despise David in her heart (see verse 16)?

Something to think about

Perhaps Michal thought it was undignified.  Maybe she thought it was not fitting for a king to leap and dance before the Lord.  Perhaps she resented David for taking her from her husband (see II Samuel 3:13-14).  Whatever her reason she ended up childless for life.

Something to experience

When we have feelings of bitterness and resentment that go unchecked it can destroy relationships, our health and our life. We need to deal with our feelings before they escalate into  open warfare with others.

Prayer

Lord I pray we will not allow fear to paralyze us (I John 4:18).  Instead I pray we will have faith in and trust in You to overcome fear (II Timothy 1:6-8; Hebrews 13:6).  Lord I pray we will trust in You so we will be free to respond boldly to the events around us. Lord I pray we will wait patiently realizing You’re working in us so that You can work through us (Psalm 37:7).  Lord I pray we will not let any negative emotions overtake us (Proverbs 29:11; Jeremiah 11:20).  I pray we will quickly come to You for help in resolving all issues (Psalm 22:19; 69:17). In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.
