In II Kings 14:26-27 the Lord saw how bitterly everyone in Israel was suffering.  So He saved them by the hand of Jeroboam II, the king.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, though Jeroboam II was not devoted to You, You used him in Your plan for Israel.

Something to think about

God can use both those who follow Him and those who don’t.

Something to experience

God holds us responsible for how we attain our wealth and how we use it.  Everything we have really belongs to God.  We should use God’s gifts with his interests in mind.

In II Kings 15:1-4 Azariah, king of Judah began to reign. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. Yet he failed to remove the high places (pagan shrines) and the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Azariah followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather.

Something to think about

Azariah’s father (Amaziah) and his grandfather (Joash) were basically good kings, but they were not good role models in some important areas.  They didn’t get rid of the pagan shrines.

Something to experience

We need to seek out good role models. Christ is a perfect role model.  No matter how we were raised or who has influenced us, if necessary, we can change directions and take Christ as our example and choose to live as He did.

In II Kings 15:8-9 Zechariah was an evil king. He encouraged Israel to sin.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Zechariah encourage Israel to worship idols.

Something to think about

Sin in an individual’s life is serious.  It’s even more serious though when that individual encourages others to sin.

Something to experience

We are responsible for the way we influence others.  Our sins can hurt us and can cause others to sin. We need to seek to be good role models.

In II Kings 15:18 Menahem was like many kings before him.  He led people to sin.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord what a horrible legacy for a leader.

Something to think about

Menahem influenced those he lead.  He could have chosen to encourage others to worship the one true God but he didn’t.

Something to experience

Our leaders affect those they are elected to serve. Their behavior can either honor God or not. They can lead us toward God or away from Him. Good leaders should clear the path for us to live godly lives.

In II Kings 15:32-38 Jotham began to reign in Judah.  He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.  However he didn’t remove the high places (pagan shrines).  So the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there. Jotham did though rebuild the Upper Gate of the temple of the Lord.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, it seems Jotham was sending mixed messages about You.

Something to think about

Jotham failed in a most important area.  He too didn’t destroy the high places.  Leaving them violated the first commandment (Exodus 20:3).

Something to experience

Are we living basically good lives and yet not doing what is most important to God?  A lifetime of doing good is not enough if we make the crucial mistake of not following God with all our heart.  A true follower of God puts God first in all areas of life.

Prayer

Lord, I pray we will remember always that everything belongs to You (Psalms 50:10-12 AMP).  Lord, I pray we will use all You give us for Your glory (Romans 6:19 AMP).  Lord, I pray we will seek good role models (Titus 2:12 AMP; Hebrews 13:7 AMP; I Peter 5:3 AMP).  Lord, I pray we will influence others positively as we follow Your example (I Peter 2:21 AMP).  Lord, I pray our leaders will influence us positively (Hebrews 13:17 AMP).  Lord, I pray we will follow You with all our heart (Deuteronomy 10:12 AMP).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

“May you and I follow the Lord with all our heart.” <>< Dona
