In II Chronicles 34 Josiah became king.  He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and walked in the ways of his ancestor King David, not turning aside to the right or to the left.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Your Book of the Law was found by Hilkiah, the priest.

Something to think about

The Book of the Law had been lost during the reigns of the evil kings. Shaphan, the secretary, told King Josiah that Hilkiah, the priest had found the Book of the Law.  Shaphan read from the book in the presence of the king. Josiah realized there would have to be drastic changes made in order to bring the nation back in line with God’s commands.

Something to experience

When you read the Bible do you ever think like Josiah did that something needs to be done?  Do you think perhaps your life and the lives of those around you would benefit if God’s Word was always the guide?  Though some may take sin lightly, God doesn’t.  When we see sin in our life, He wants us to respond with true remorse as Josiah did.

In II Chronicles 35 Josiah was shot by Neco’s archers. Neco, king of Egypt, had warned Josiah not to enter the battle. Neco had told King Josiah “God has told me to hurry, so stop opposing God, the One who is with me, or He will destroy you.”  But Josiah would not turn away from the battle.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Josiah would not listen to what Neco had said at Your command.

Something to think about

Neco was king of a pagan nation.  So Josiah believed Neco could not be part of God’s plan.  This mistake cost Josiah his life.

Something to experience

Not everyone who claims to have a message from God really does.  But God’s messages may come in unexpected ways.  God has spoken to pagan kings in the past (see Genesis 12:17-20; 20:3-7; Daniel 4:1-3). Don’t let prejudice or false assumptions keep you from believing God’s message. Seek confirmation from God.

In II Chronicles 36 God warned Judah about its sin and continually restored the people to His favor, only to see them turn from Him.  God sent word to them through His prophets again and again. But they mocked God’s messengers.  They despised God’s words and scoffed at His prophets until God’s anger was aroused against His people.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, You finally had enough.

Something to think about

God allowed Nebuchadnezzar to carry to Babylon the temple articles.  Then God’s temple was set on fire.  And the wall of Jerusalem were broken down.  All the palaces were burned and everything of value was destroyed.  All the people who escaped from the sword became servants to Nebuchadnezzar and his sons.

Something to experience

We too need to be careful that we don’t harbor sin in our heart.  The day may come when there is no remedy but God’s judgment.  Sin often repeated, but never repented of, invites disaster.  God keeps all His promises – blessings and judgment.

Prayer

Lord, I pray we will spend time reading Your Word, the Bible (Hebrews 4:12AMP).  I pray we will indeed quickly repent when we see sin in our life (Ezekiel 33:11 AMP). Lord, I pray we will take every “thus saith the Lord” spoken by others and hold it up to Your Word (Psalm 119:11 AMP). I pray we will seek Your plan (Matthew 6:33 AMP).  Lord, I pray we will not sin against You, but if we do, I pray we will quickly repent and turn from sin and turn to You (I John 1:9 AMP).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.
