In I Samuel 26 David had another opportunity to get rid of King Saul.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, though Saul had sought to kill David, David believed Saul was Your anointed (verse 9) and that he shouldn’t harm him.

Something to think about

Abishai went with David into Saul’s camp at night when everyone was sleeping.  Abishai offered to kill Saul.

Something to experience

Even when someone encourages us to do something that seems right, we must always put God’s commands first.  We should trust God. And determine to do what’s right in God’s eyes.

In I Samuel 28 though God had strictly forbidden the Israelites from have anything to do with anyone who consulted the dead (see Deut. 18:9-14) Saul sought a medium.  Though he himself had banned them from Israel.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, though Saul removed the sin of witchcraft from the land, he had not removed it from his heart.

Something to think about

Saul was desperate for counsel. He was fearful when he saw the Philistine forces gathered to fight Israel.  He sought the Lord.  But the Lord did not answer him.  Sometimes people wonder why their prayers are not answered.  But if they don’t fulfill the responsibilities God has already given them, they should not be surprised when He does not give further guidance.

Something to experience

Knowing what is right and condemning what is wrong does not take the place of doing what is right.  Let life’s difficulties and obstacles push you in God’s direction and make you depend upon Him.  Turning to anything or anyone else leads only to disaster in the end.

Prayer

Lord I pray we will seek to follow You and make morally right decisions (Matthew 5:10).  I pray we will seek Your timing in all we say and do (Psalm 69:13; Galatians 4:4). I pray we will trust You (Psalm 16:1). Lord I pray we will seek Your counsel and follow through on all You reveal to us (Proverbs 13:10).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.
