In I Kings 18:1-18 Elijah, a prophet, challenged the Israelites to follow whoever was the true God.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Elijah confronted King Ahab.

Something to think about

King Ahab called Elijah a troublemaker.  Elijah said he wasn’t the trouble maker that Ahab and his family were.   Though many knew that the Lord was God, they partook of the sinful pleasures and other benefits that came with following Ahab in his idolatrous worship.

Something to experience

Will you stand up for God when most of those around you are not?  Seek God’s presence and God’s power and you won’t have to stand alone.

In I Kings 18:19-39 Elijah challenged Ahab’s 450 prophets of Baal to a match of wit and power on Mount Carmen.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, the people from all over Israel were invited to meet on Mount Carmel to see the confrontation between Elijah, a prophet of God, and the pagan prophets.

Something to think about

Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions?  If the Lord is God, follow Him, but if Baal is God, follow him” (verse 21).

Something to experience

It’s important to take a stand for the Lord.  If we just drift along with whatever is pleasant and easy we will someday discover that we have been worshiping a false god – ourselves.

In I Kings 19:1-9 even though Elijah had experienced two great victories – the defeat of the prophets of Baal and the answered prayer for rain – he was afraid and ran for his life when Ahab’s wife threatened him.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, discouragement set in on Elijah.

Something to think about

Before reminding Elijah his mission to speak God’s words to Israel wasn’t done, God first let Elijah rest and eat.  Then God reminded Elijah.

Something to experience

When we feel let down after a great spiritual experience, we need to remember that God’s purpose for our life is not yet over.

In I Kings 19:9-14 Elijah thought he was the only person left who was still true to God.  Elijah had seen both the king’s court and the priesthood become corrupt.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Elijah thought he was all alone in following You.

Something to think about

Elijah forgot that others had remained faithful during the nation’s wickedness.

Something to experience

When you are tempted to think you are the only one remaining faithful to a task, don’t stop to feel sorry for yourself.  Be assured that even if you don’t know who they are, others are faithfully obeying God and fulfilling their duties.

In I Kings 19:15-21 The Lord tells Elijah what he is to do next.  Elijah was to anoint three different people.  The last one would be Elisha who would succeed Elijah as prophet.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Elisha’s job would be to point the people in the northern kingdom back to God.

Something to think about

At this time, the southern kingdom was ruled by Jehoshaphat, a king already devoted to God.

Something to experience

Elisha gave up all to follow God. We too can commit our life to following God.

Prayer

Lord I pray we will stand up for You even when others won’t (Ephesians 6:11 AMP).  I pray we will seek Your presence and Your power (Luke 15:10 AMP).  I pray we will turn from anything that doesn’t line up with Your will for us (Hebrews 12:1 AMP).  I pray we will remember that until we leave this earth You have a job for us to do here (Revelation 2:5 AMP). Lord I pray we will faithfully obey You and fulfill all You’ve called us to do (James 1:25 AMP).  Lord, I pray we will willingly give up all to follow You (Luke 9:23 AMP).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

May you and I surrender all to follow the Lord.” <>< Dona
