Theme Hosea 13

The Lord’s anger.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, there was a time that Ephraim was great (v. 1).

Something to think about

But by the time Hosea came along the people had begun rebelling against God (v. 2).  The Lord made it clear that He was the God who had brought them out of Egypt.  And that they were to acknowledge no god but Him, no savior but Him (v. 4). Israel would be destroyed because they were against God, their helper (v. 9). The Israelites were told their guilt was being stored up, their sins were being kept on record (v. 12).

Something to experience

We should never forget that God provides everything.  We should keep our relationship genuine with God.  Committing ourselves to Him moment to moment. Those of us who have trusted in Christ Jesus for deliverance from sin should not fear death (v. 14).

Scripture to hide in your heart

Hosea 13:1 When Ephraim (the northern tribe) spoke, there was trembling.  He exalted himself in Israel, but when he became guilty in Baal, he died.

Hosea 13:2 Now they sin more and more, and have made themselves molten images of their silver, even idols according to their own understanding, all of them the work of the craftsmen.  They say of them, ‘They offer human sacrifice and kiss the calves.’

Hosea 13:4 “Yet I am the Lord your God from the land of Egypt; and you shall acknowledge no god but Me, and besides me there is no savior.”

Hosea 13:9 You are destroyed, Israel, because you are against Me, against your help.

Hosea 13:12 The guilt of Ephraim is stored up.  His sin is stored up.

Hosea 13:14 “I will ransom them from the power of Sheol.  I will redeem them from death!  Death, where are your plagues?  Sheol, where is your destruction? “Compassion will be hidden from My eyes.”

Theme Hosea 14

Repentance.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, You wanted Israel to return (v. 1-2).

Something to think about

The Lord was willing to receive Israel back into fellowship (v. 4).

Something to experience

We can listen, learn and benefit from God’s Word (v. 9).

Scripture to hide in your heart

Hosea 14:1-21 Israel, return to the Lord your God; for you have fallen because of your sin.  Take words with you, and return to the Lord.  Tell Him, “Forgive all our sins, and accept that which is good: so we offer our lips like bulls.”

Hosea 14:4 “I will heal their waywardness.  I will love them freely; for My anger is turned away from him.

Hosea 14:9 Who is wise, that he may understand these things?  Who is prudent, that he may know them?  For the ways of the Lord are right, and the righteous walk in them; But the rebellious stumble in them.

Prayer

Lord, I pray we will never forget that You provide everything.  Lord, I pray we will seek to keep our relationship genuine with You.  Lord, I pray we will commit ourselves to You moment by moment. Thank You for delivering us from our sin and giving us eternal life (Hosea 13:14).  Lord, I pray we will listen, learn and benefit from Your Word (Hosea 14:9). In Christ Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN.

“May you and I listen to and learn from God’s Word.” <>< Dona
