Theme Habakkuk 1

Message delivered.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Habakkuk asked You how long must he call for help (v. 2).

Something to think about

God answered Habakkuk that He would do some unbelievable work (v. 5).  Habakkuk wondered why God was tolerating the wicked who were mistreating the righteous (v. 13).

Something to experience

Even when we are experiencing unbearable circumstances (v. 3-4), God hasn’t forgotten us.  We need to wait on Him to do His will in His time (v. 5).

Scripture to hide in your heart

Habakkuk 1:2 O Lord, how long will I cry, and you will not hear? I cry out to you “Violence!” and will you not save?

Habakkuk 1:3-4 Why do you show me iniquity, and look at perversity? For destruction and violence are before me. There is strife, and contention rises up. Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails; for the wicked surround the righteous; therefore justice comes out perverted.

Habakkuk 1:5 “Look among the nations, watch, and wonder marvelously; for I am working a work in your days, which you will not believe though it is told you.

Habakkuk 1:13 You who have purer eyes than to see evil, and who cannot look on perversity, why do you tolerate those who deal treacherously, and keep silent when the wicked swallows up the man who is more righteous than he.

The Lord replies.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Habakkuk said he would wait on You to answer (v. 1).

Something to think about

The Lord told Habakkuk to write down the revelation (v. 2).  That though His judgment would be slow to come it would certain come (v. 3). Babylon’s wealth had come from the mistreating of others (v. 9-13).

Something to experience

Like He told Habakkuk, God is telling us to be patient and wait for His plan to come to pass (v. 3).   We Christians are called to live by faith (v. 4) knowing God is in control. We believers should not allow wealth to displace our family, friends or God (v. 9-13). We should come before God in humility and silently wait on Him (v. 20).

Scripture to hide in your heart

Habakkuk 2:1 I will stand at my watch, and set myself on the ramparts, and will look out to see what He will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint.

Habakkuk 2:2 The Lord answered me, “Write the vision, and make it plain on tablets, that he who runs may read it.”

Habakkuk 2:3 “For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hurries toward the end, and won’t prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it; because it will surely come. It won’t delay.”

Habakkuk 2:4 “Behold, his soul is puffed up. It is not upright in him, but the righteous will live by his faith.”

Habakkuk 2:9-13 9 “Woe to him who gets an evil gain for his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the hand of evil! 10 You have devised shame to your house, by cutting off many peoples, and have sinned against your soul. 11 For the stone will cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the woodwork will answer it. 12 Woe to him who builds a town with blood, and establishes a city by iniquity! 13 Behold, isn’t it of Lord Almighty that the peoples labor for the fire, and the nations weary themselves for vanity?”

Habakkuk 2:20 But the Lord is in His holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before Him!”

Prayer (v. 1).

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Habakkuk praised You for answering his questions (v. 2a).

Something to think about

Habakkuk accepted God’s punish but asked for mercy too (v. 2b). Habakkuk was placing his faith in God even though there would be hard times ahead (v. 16-19).

Something to experience

God sometimes has to discipline us, but He does it because He loves us.  He wants us to return to Him. Only He can provide salvation and strength (v. 18-19).

Scripture to hide in your heart

Habakkuk 3:1 A prayer of Habakkuk, the prophet, set to victorious music.

Habakkuk 3:2 Lord, I have heard of your fame.  I stand in awe of your deeds, O Lord.  Renew Your work in the middle of the years.  In the middle of the years make it known.  In wrath, You remember mercy.

Habakkuk 3:16-19 16 I heard, and my body trembled.  My lips quivered at the voice.  Rottenness enters into my bones, and I tremble in my place, because I must wait quietly for the day of trouble, for the coming up of the people who invade us. 17 For though the fig tree doesn’t flourish, nor fruit be in the vines; the labor of the olive fails, the fields yield no food; the flocks are cut off from the fold, and there is no herd in the stalls: 18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord.  I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!  19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength.  He makes my feet like deer’s feet, and enables me to go in high places.  For the music director, on my stringed instruments.

Prayer

Lord, even when we are experiencing unbearable circumstances, I pray we will remember You are with us (Habakkuk 1:3-4).   Lord, I pray we will wait on Your timing (Habakkuk1:5).  Lord, I pray we will be patient and wait for Your plan to come to pass (Habakkuk 2:3).   Lord, I pray we will live by faith in You (Habakkuk 2:4).  I pray we will trust You to control our life.  Lord, I pray we believers will not allow wealth to displace our family, friends or God (Habakkuk 2:9-13). Lord, I pray we will come before You in humility and silently wait on You (Habakkuk 2:20).  Lord, I pray we will accept what You allow to come into our life.  Knowing everything will be worked out in Your time (Habakkuk 3).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

“May you and I accept God’s plan for our life.” <>< Dona
