In Genesis 8:15-17. God spoke to Noah.

Response

“OH! WOW!” Noah heard God’s voice.  And so can we.

Something to experience

Though I’ve heard God’s voice through reading His Word, through the encouragement from other people, and in my heart I’ve never heard the audible voice of God.  Why not stop right now?  Say to God, “Lord I’m listening.”  Pause for at least 60 seconds.  Write down anything you believe you heard.  Is it encouraging? Is it calming?  If you didn’t hear anything, just be alert to any words that come into your mind during the day. Record them.

Something to think about

If your thoughts are encouraging and calming they’re most likely from God. If they’re discouraging and disruptive thoughts they are most likely not from God (see John 10:10).  God’s Word is living and active and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).  Every Scripture is God-breathed and it is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness (II Timothy 3:16-17).

Prayer

Lord I pray we will listen for You.  I pray we will hear Your voice.  I pray we will obey Your voice.  I pray we will indeed understand that there is an enemy seeking to take us down.  But I pray we will seek Your abundant life. I pray we will rely on the Holy Spirit to teach us all things and remind us of Your Word.  I ask You to fill us with all joy and peace.  I pray we will abound in hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.  I pray Your Word will discern the thoughts and intentions of our heart.  Lord thank You for every Scripture You breathed into existence.  Thank You for Your Word that teaches us, reproofs us, corrects us, and instructs us in righteousness so that we who belong to You may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. In Christ Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN.

In Genesis 8:21-22 We no longer atone for our sins by sacrificing animals.

Response

“OH! WOW!”  Noah’s sacrifice was a pleasant aroma to You Lord. And You made Noah a promise. Is our life a sweet aroma to You?

Something to experience

We no longer need to sacrifice animals to atone for our sins.  Jesus was the final sacrifice for our sins (see Hebrews 7:26-27; Hebrews 9:24-26; Romans 3:21-26). God wants us to live in a way that creates a sweet aroma of Christ (II Corinthians 2:14-16).   God wants us to present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to Him (Romans 12:1).   Have you yielded your life to Him?  What fragrance are you producing for God?

Prayer

Lord thank You for sending Your Son, Christ Jesus, to sacrifice His life to cover our sins.   I pray we will be a sweet aroma to You.  I pray we will present our bodies living sacrifices, holy, acceptable to You. In Christ Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN.

In Genesis 9:8-17 the covenant God made with Noah is still in affect.

Response

“Oh! Wow!” Lord thank You for giving us a rainbow to remind us of Your promise to never again destroy the entire earth with a flood.

Something to experience

If you haven’t already why don’t you make yourself a “God Keeps His Promises” bookmark.  The directions can be found on the “Oh! Wow!” Day 4 post.

Prayer

Lord thank You for establishing a covenant not only with Noah but with every living creature which includes us who are still alive. In Christ Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN.

In Genesis 11:1-9 God creates different languages.

Response

“Oh! Wow!” So Lord You created the different languages.   When You confused the language of the people in Babel the people scattered to different parts of the world because they could no longer understand each other.

Something to think about

Just like differences in language, difference in viewpoints can cause separation of people.  Do you think it’s possible to effectively communicate with those who have a different view from you?  What steps might you take to improve a communication problem?

Prayer

Lord so far as we are able I pray we will attempt to live at peace with everyone (Romans 12:18). In Christ Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN.

In Genesis 12:1-4 Abram has faith in God’s plan.

Response

“Oh! Wow!” Lord Abram submitted to Your request for him to leave his home country.  From verse 4 I don’t think he even complained about this move.

Something to experience

If you’ve had to move away from your hometown or family of origin how did you respond?  I know I moaned and groaned before I heard God say “be content in the state” I was in.

Something to think about

In verses 2 through 3 God tells Abram He will make of him a great nation.  That He will bless Abram and make his name great. That Abram will be a blessing. God says He will bless those who bless Abram and He will curse those who treat Abram with contempt. That all the families of the earth will be blessed through Abram. Do you think this was an easy or hard decision for Abram to leave his own country?  Why do you think this way?

Prayer

Lord I pray we will go where You request us to go.  I pray we will remember if you’ve called us you’ll lead us and You will bless our obedience. In Christ Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN.
