Genesis 37:1-4.

Response

“Oh! Wow!” Lord, Because of his own past, Jacob should have known better than to show favoritism.

Something to think about

Nevertheless Jacob showed he loved Joseph more than any of his other children by making him a tunic (a richly ornamented robe) of many colors. Because Joseph’s brothers knew Joseph was loved more by their father than they were, they hated Joseph and wouldn’t speak peaceably to him.

Genesis 39:1-6.

Response

“Oh! Wow” Lord You never left Joseph.

Something to think about

Because Joseph was sold to the Ismaelites and then resold to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh’s, we might think God had forgotten about Joseph.  But in this passage we see God worked through Joseph’s situation.  Joseph was able to minister to Potiphar. Because of Joseph, God blessed Potiphar’s house.

Something to experience

We might not see our current situation as good but nevertheless we need to trust God to use us where we are.  Even in trials we can bless others with our words and our actions.

Genesis 39:6-20 Joseph refused the advances from his master’s wife.  But as he ran away from her she grabbed his garment and he left it in her hands. Then she falsely accuse Joseph of improper behavior toward her and used the garment as proof.

Response

“Oh! Wow!”  Lord You are with us even when we are falsely accused.

Something to think about

Joseph was falsely accused.  He was put in prison. You might ask, “Where is the good in this situation?”  Well wait and see.

Something to experience

Have you ever been falsely accused?  Did God come through for you?  If you’re still going through a situation such as Joseph did, have you sought God’s guidance? Now is the time.  What do you think God want you to do?

Genesis 39:21-23.

Response

“Oh! Wow!” Lord You can show us kindness even when we’re in a difficult situation.

Something to think about

Right in verse 21 we’re told Yahweh (God) was with Joseph and showed kindness to him and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

Something to experience

Even when we don’t understand why we’re in a certain situation, we need to trust God. Sometimes we may be in a certain situation because God wants to use us to help someone else.  His Word says He sometimes allow us to go through certain circumstances so when we get to the other side we can turn around and help others come through a similar circumstance (II Corinthians 1:3-4).

Prayer

Lord I pray we parents will not alienated our children from us or each other by loving one more than another. I pray we will not show partiality either (James 2:1, 9).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN. Lord I pray we will not judge our circumstances.  I pray we will believe that You are working all things that come into our life for good as Romans 8:28 says. Lord I pray that those who are right now experiencing a situation similar to Joseph’s will seek Your guidance (Galatians 5:16).  I pray they will do what You want them to do (Proverbs 10:27).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.
