“May you and I tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.” <>< Dona (01/09/20)

Genesis 20:1-13 Abraham probably feared his life was in danger so though he was telling the truth that Sarah was his sister (they both had the same father) he didn’t tell the whole truth, that Sarah was also his wife.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, Abraham was being deceptive about his relationship with Sarah.

Something to think about

Abraham had done this another time that is recording in the Bible (Genesis 12:10-20).

Something to experience

Before I start thinking more highly of myself than I should, I need to remember if there has been anytime that I’ve stopped short of telling the whole truth myself.

Prayer

Lord it is so easy to identify other’s shortcomings but to overlook in my own life the very sins I see in others (Matthew 7:1-5). Help all of us to stay so close to You that when we are tempted to “distort” the truth we will be quickly convicted (James 4:8). In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

In Genesis 21:1-7 though Sarah and Abraham were quite old God promised them a baby.

Response

“Oh! Wow!” Lord, Sarah and Abraham became parents when Abraham was one hundred years old.

Something to think about

I have no desire to have a baby at my age.  I dearly love the son and daughter I had years ago and who are all grown up now.

Something to experience

I hope this passage will be an encouragement to those who are struggling to have a baby.  Because God has a plan.

Prayer

Lord I thank You for my children and my grandchildren.  I pray for all those who are trying to conceive.  I ask You Lord to be with them.  Help them to understand what Your plan is for them. I pray they will rejoice now about what You have planned for their future (Jeremiah 29:11-13). In Your Son Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

In Genesis 22:1-18 Abraham trusted God with his son.

Response

“Oh! Wow!” Lord, You were testing Abraham’s faith.

Something to think about

God wasn’t trying to lead Abraham into killing his own son.  God was testing Abraham. God was interested in Abraham’s obedience.  God brings difficult decisions into our lives.  When we’re guided by God He will build our character, He will refine us through every difficult circumstance we experience.

Something to experience

Obeying God means sacrificing our own wants and desires and receiving from God what He wants us to have.

Prayer

Lord help us to continually and carefully respond to You and Your Word. I pray we will surrender to You.  I pray we will gratefully receive all You want to give us.  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

“May you and I trust God with our loved ones.” <>< Dona
