Genesis 2:1-3.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord even though You didn’t have to rest You did so anyway.  That’s a great example to those of us who really need to rest more frequently than we do.

Something to experience

Each week why not pick one day to really rest.   Not just from work, but from worry, and any other negative emotions.  Perhaps just sit in a comfortable chair with your eyes closed for a few minutes and listen to a favorite selection of music.  Or perhaps take a nap. Or choose some other calming activity. Let go of any thing that is draining your strength mentally, emotionally, spiritually or physically.

Genesis 2:4-6.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord that sounds like a really big terrarium.

Something to experience

We cannot experience the exact condition described in this passage.  But we can experience the watering of the earth.   The next time it rains view your lawn.   Notice the dew like look of the rain on the plants and ground. Or if you have a sprinkler system or use a hose on your lawn notice how your lawn looks after it’s been watered.

Lord in this passage You watered the ground with the dew from the earth for as yet You had not caused it to rain on the earth.  Lord thank You for now sending rain to water the earth.  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN.

F.Y.I.

Yahweh is the most well-known name for God in the Old Testament. The name Yahweh, shows Gods covenant lordship over Israel. The Lord revealed this name to Moses at the burning bush in the process of calling him to be His agent for liberating the Israelites from Egyptian slavery. (this info from biblestudytool.com)

Genesis 2:7 Yahweh God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord you formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.

Something to experience

Please sit quietly and enhale slowly, then exhale slowly.  Do this for a minute or two. Each breath is provided by God.

Genesis 2:18-25.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord You allowed the man (Adam) to name all the animals. Oh! Wow! You chose to give man a companion.  You did surgery on the man and took one of his ribs to make the woman (Eve).

Something to think about

Did you notice not only did God allow the man to name the animals but the man identified the woman? Did you notice though God made man, all the animals, birds, and every other living creature out of the ground, but He made the woman from the man?

Genesis 4:1-15.

Response

“Oh! Wow!” Lord You protected Cain even though he killed his own brother Abel.  So there is hope for all of us who think we’ve been too sinful for You to forgive us. We just need to repent and return to following You.

Something to experience

No matter what we’ve done God will forgive us if we come to Him and repent, that is ask for forgiveness.  This may be hard to believe but God not only forgives sins we consider minor like “telling little white lies” but He forgives sins we consider major like murder.  (II Peter 3:9 WEB The Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some count slowness; but He is patient with us, not wishing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance.)

Genesis 4:16-26.

Response

“Oh! Wow!” Adam’s son Cain left Your Presence (verse 16). Many years passed. It wasn’t until Adam’s son Seth had a son named Enosh (verse 26) that men began again to call on Your name.

Something to experience

I encourage you to stop and call on God’s name.  Why not right now thank God for all the life experiences you’ve had. Even those you don’t understand completely. Trust God that He will work together every event in your life for good (Romans 8:28 WEB  We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose).

Prayer

Lord in this passage You watered the ground with the dew from the earth for as yet You had not caused it to rain on the earth.  Lord thank You for now sending rain to water the earth.  Lord thank You for providing us with the oxygen we need to breathe. Lord thank You for creating both men and women.  I pray we will be helpers to one another. And live according to Your plan for each of us. Lord I pray we will truly understand Your love for us.  Your abundant, glorious, unending love that You demonstrated to us when You sent Christ Jesus to die on the cross for our sins.    Lord even though You never grow tired, You rested on the seventh day.  And made the seventh day holy.  Thank You for the example of how we should live. I pray we will take time to rest our body, mind and spirit.Lord I pray we and our loved ones will look to and speak to You  daily, in planned and unplanned moments. I pray unconfessed sin will not turn us from Your Presence as it did Cain. I pray instead that any time we sin our response will be to quickly ask You for forgiveness. In Christ Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN.

“May you and I recognize quickly when we’ve sinned and repent.” <>< Dona
