Theme Ezekiel 31

The result of pride.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, pride would bring both Assyria (v. 10-11, 14) and Egypt (v. 18) down.

Something to think about

No nation can stand permanently without the Lord.

Something to experience

When our nation gets to the point where our leaders believe they’re all powerful we are in serious trouble.

Scripture to hide in your heart

Ezekiel 31:10-11, 14“Therefore thus said the Sovereign Lord: ‘Because you are exalted in stature, and he has set his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height; 11 I will even deliver him into the hand of the mighty one of the nations. He will surely deal with him. I have driven him out for his wickedness. …  14 to the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves in their stature, and don’t set their top among the thick boughs. Their mighty ones don’t stand up on their height, even all who drink water; for they are all delivered to death, to the lower parts of the earth, among the children of men, with those who go down to the pit.’”

Ezekiel 31:18 “‘To whom are you thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? Yet you will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the lower parts of the earth. You will lie in the middle of the uncircumcised, with those who are slain by the sword.  ‘This is Pharaoh and all his multitude,’ says the Sovereign Lord.”

Theme Ezekiel 32

Pharaoh.

Response

Oh! Wow! Even might rulers like Pharaoh would fall (v. 7).

Something to think about

The judgment of wicked nations proved God alone was sovereign (v. 17-18).

Something to experience

The messages in this chapter should remind us that God is in control (v. 9).

Scripture to hide in your heart

Ezekiel 32:7 “When I extinguish you, I will cover the heavens and make its stars dark.  I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon won’t give its light.”

Ezekiel 32:9“I will also trouble the hearts of many peoples, when I bring your destruction among the nations, into the countries which you have not known.

Ezekiel 32:17-18 17Also in the twelfth year, in the fifteenth day of the month, the Lord’s word came to me, saying, 18“Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, even her and the daughters of the famous nations, to the lower parts of the earth, with those who go down into the pit.

Theme Ezekiel 33

Restoration.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord, the exiles finally felt the weight of their sin (v. 10).

Something to think about

The Lord said He took no pleasure in the death of the wicked.  He wanted them to turn from their sinful ways and live (v. 11). The Lord said His people were not doing what Ezekiel’s message required (v. 31).

Something to experience

God wants everyone to turn to Him.  We need to sincerely follow the Lord.  And when we sin we need to  ask for His forgiveness.  Some people will reject our message but we still need to be faithful in delivering it.

Scripture to hide in your heart

Ezekiel 33:10 “You, son of man, tell the house of Israel: ‘You say this, “Our transgressions and our sins are on us, and we pine away in them. How then can we live?”’

Ezekiel 33:11 Tell them, ‘“As I live,” says the Sovereign Lord, “I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why will you die, house of Israel?”’

Ezekiel 33:31 “They come to you as the people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear your words, but don’t do them; for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their gain.”

Prayer

Lord, I pray, unlike Egypt, that our nation will turn from their prideful attitudes and actions (Ezekiel 31:10). Lord, I pray we will turn from all evil behavior (Ezekiel 31:14).  Lord, I pray we will not be consigned to the pit, but will be called into Your kingdom (Ezekiel 32:18). Lord, I pray we will be found faithful in Your sight (Ezekiel 33:16).  Lord, I pray we will listen to Your Word and obey; that is apply Your Word to our life (Ezekiel 33:31).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

“May you and I apply God’s Word to our life.” <>< Dona
