WEEK IN REVIEW

Monday (04/20/20) I Samuel 11-13

When injustice or sin makes us angry, we need to ask God how we can channel that anger in constructive ways to help bring about a positive change.   Right now both Democrats and Republicans are getting angry about what the other party says and does.  I believe praying for those we disagree with would help more than doing or saying something in retaliation.

We may disagree with others, but we shouldn’t stop praying for them. We need to pray without ceasing (I Thessalonians 5:17).

When we notice pride coming into our lives, we need to take immediate steps and give credit where credit is due.  Most times the credit is all God’s.  As we face problems and temptations, we need to focus our attention on God and His resources.  We need to trust Him to help us (Romans 8:31-37).

Prayer: Lord I pray we will seek to be at peace with everyone (Romans 12:18).  Remind us to pray for those with whom we disagree (Matthew 5:44).  Lord thank You for giving us both the blessing and the responsibility of prayer (Ephesians 6:18). Lord I pray we will teach one another Your way (II Timothy 2:2). I pray we will be persistent in seeking Your Presence (I Thessalonians 5:17). Lord I pray we will humbly acknowledge all that You give us.  I pray we will trust You (Romans 8:31-37). In Christ Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN.

Tuesday (04/21/20) I Samuel 14-15

With God there are always enough resources to resist the pressures and win the battle.  If God has called you to action, then bravely commit what resources you have to God and rely upon Him to lead you to victory.  Are there steps you feel God is leading you to take?  What’s holding you back? Perhaps those few steps are all you need to experience victory.

We should commit our ways to God and trust Him with the outcome.

Don’t be the kind of person who is dishonest and lies to make yourself look better before others. God knows your heart.  And eventually you will be found out by those around you. Honesty is still the best policy.

Prayer: Lord I pray You will give us the wisdom, the words and the actions to resist every enemy we face (Luke 21:15).  Lord I pray we will submit to Your authority (James 4:7). Lord I pray we will put on the armor You’ve given us so we can resist and firmly stand our ground in every battle (Ephesians 6:13).  Thank You for the resources you provide for us.  I pray when You call us to action that we will bravely commit all You’ve provided (II Corinthians 5:19). I pray we will rely on You to lead us to victory.  I pray we will commit our ways to You and trust You with the outcome (Proverbs 3:5-6).  Lord I pray we will incline our heart to Your Word.  I pray we will not seek dishonest gain and we will not envy those who do (Psalm 119:36). Lord I pray our heart will be steadfast and confident as we praise You (Psalm 57:7).  I pray in thought, word or action we will be truthful (Philippians 1:8). In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

Wednesday (04/22/20) I Samuel 16-18

Since God is looking inside of us, we should spend time developing our inner character. Though others can see our face, only God knows what our heart really looks like.  What steps are you taking to improve your heart’s attitude?

Once we see clearly, we can fight more effectively.  Don’t let others discourage you if you know God is with you and will fight for you.  By doing what God’s called you to do, you will be pleasing Him.

Jealousy starts as a resentment toward another person because they have something that perhaps you don’t have or you don’t have enough of in your opinion.  A suggestion: pray for those you’re jealous of, those you disapprove of and those who are mistreating you.

Prayer: Lord help us to develop our inner character; that is our heart attitude (Luke 1:17). Lord I pray we will fight only the battles you call us to fight (I Timothy 6:12).  I pray we will not be discouraged as we trust You are with us in our battles (Jeremiah 39:18).  I pray we will please You by our thoughts, words and behavior (I Thessalonians 2:4; 4:1, 7).  Lord I pray we will not resent anyone (Proverbs 19:11) or be jealous of anyone (Proverbs 27:4).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

Thursday (04/23/20) I Samuel 19-22

Obedience to God’s laws overrides obedience to anyone else.

We too may experience harmful consequences when we lie. And lying, like every other sin, is serious in God’s sight.

God does not promise to protect good people from evil in this world. Though He does promise Christians that He will be with us in every situation (Deuteronomy 31:8).

Prayer: Lord I pray we will obey You over anyone else (Luke 9:35).  Lord I pray we will not lie but if we do I pray we will quickly repent (Colossians 3:9; Revelation 14:5).  Lord thank You for answering our prayers (Psalm 3:4, 4:1).  Thank You for being with us in every situation we face (Hebrews 13:5).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

Friday (04/24/20) I Samuel 23-25

Sometimes I do something without seeking God’s help because it seems like such a “no-brainer.”  Yet I trip up and say or do something that causes a problem for me and/or others.  It would have been easier to seek guidance from God first.  Instead of later having to ask God to help me clean up the mess I made.

Don’t compromise your moral standards by giving in to group pressure or taking the easy way out.

No matter how right we think we are, we must always be careful to stop and listen to others.  The extra time and effort can save us from pain and trouble in the long run.

Prayer: Lord I pray we will take time to seek Your guidance (Galatians 5:16).  Help us to discern what opportunities are from You and which are not from You (Proverbs 1:2). I pray we will choose to follow Your desires.  I pray we will stay focused on doing Your will (Matthew 4:19).  I pray we will not get tripped up and say or do something that will cause problems for us or others.  Thank You for giving us leaders who follow after You (Romans 13:1-7).  I pray we will respect those in authority. No matter how right we think we are, I pray we will always be careful to stop and listen to others.   I pray though that we will not allow anyone to pressure us into violating Your law.  I pray we will not compromise our moral standards by giving in to group pressure (Proverbs 29:16). In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.
