In Joshua 4 God had instructions for the Israelites when they reached the other side of the Jordan.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord You directed the Israelites to build a memorial.

Something to think about

The memorial would remind them of who they were to focus on and who was guiding them. Don’t let too much activity shift your focus away from God.

Something to experience

Don’t let tasks you’re doing for God stop you from thanking God for what He’s already done for you.  Perhaps you could set aside some quiet time to build your own memorial to God’s power.

Prayer

Lord I pray we will tell our children and our grandchildren about Your work in our life. I pray we will take time to share with our children and our grandchildren what You’ve done in our life – especially how You forgive (Psalm 130:4), how You save (Ephesians 1:7), how You answer our prayers (Psalm 120:1), and how You supply our needs (Philippians 4:19). I pray the sharing of our story will help keep memories of Your faithfulness alive in our family too (Joshua 4:19-24).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

In Joshua 5 the Canaanites are terrified.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord the Canaanites became terrified of the Israelites’ army because they heard about the Israelites great victories through You.

Something to think about

Don’t underestimate God.  He will cause opposition to disappear if we are faithful to Him.  God can change the attitudes of those who oppose Him.

Something to experience

We can show respect to God by our attitudes and actions.  Our actions need to model our attitudes before others.

Prayer

Lord I pray we will not be shaken or terrified.  I pray we will hear Your voice saying for us to take courage, that You are with us. I pray we will not be afraid (Mark 6:50).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

In Joshua 6 the walls of Jericho come tumbling down.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord the Israelites had only to do what You told them to do to bring the walls of Jericho down.

Something to think about

The walls of Jericho were very high and very thick.  The Canaanites probably considered them invincible.

Something to experience

God is the One who is invincible.  Though we fight battles every day and sin is all around us we have the assurance that our battle is already been won. We can overcome our enemy through Christ Jesus’ power.

Prayer

Thank You Lord for being our strength, the source of our courage, and our invincible army.  Thank You for making our feet steady and sure. I pray we will walk forward with spiritual confidence on high places of challenge and responsibility (Habakkuk 3:19).  Lord I pray we will not be ashamed to testify about You. I pray we will share our faith regardless of the circumstances (II Timothy 1:8).   Lord I pray we will recognize the battles we find ourselves in are not ours but Yours (I Samuel 17:47).  Lord I pray You will bring us peace in the midst of our battles (Psalm 55:18).  Lord thank You for sending us Your Son who has overcome the world (John 16:33). And we too can overcome the world when we believe and recognize the fact that Your Son is Jesus (I John 5:5).  Thank You for purchasing us with the precious blood, the priceless blood of Christ Jesus (I Peter 1:19). In His name I pray. AMEN.
