In Deuteronomy 17 the Israelites were told: to not worship other gods; how to handle crime, and how to appoint a king.  They were reminded twice to “purge the evil from among them” (verse 7 and verse 12).

In Deuteronomy 18 the Israelites were told to “not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations” they were entering (verse 9-11). They were told to “be blameless before the Lord” their God (verse 13).

In Deuteronomy 19 the Israelites were told “to love the Lord (their) God and to walk always in His ways” (verse 9). They were told again in verse 19 to “purge the evil from among (them).”

Oh! Wow! Lord You are truly a holy God who wants us to be holy too.

Something to think about

The appointed king was given a personal copy of the law (Deuteronomy 17:18-20).  The king was to learn to revere God and follow carefully all the laws and decrees.

Something to experience

We believers have a copy of God’s laws and decrees and much more in the Bible.  We too are expected to learn to revere and follow after God and His Word.

Lord I pray we will seek to purge the evil from among us by first looking within and repenting of our own sins.  I pray we will change our old way of thinking and turn from our sinful ways.  I pray we will accept and follow Your Son, Christ Jesus as our Messiah (Acts 2:38).  Lord I pray we will turn away from evil and do good.  I pray we will seek and pursue peace (Psalm 34:14).  Lord I ask You to open our eyes that we may turn from darkness to light and from the power of satan to You, so that we may receive forgiveness and release from our sins.  I pray we will be sanctified, that is set apart and made holy, by our faith in Your Son, Christ Jesus (Acts 26:18).  Lord I pray we will follow after Your Son and walk the same path of life that He walked (Matthew 9:9). Lord I pray we will take up our cross and express a willingness to endure whatever may come.  I pray we will believe in Christ Jesus and conform to His example in living, suffering and dying (Matthew 10:38).  Lord I pray we will take Your Son, Christ Jesus’ yoke upon us and learn from Him.  For He is gentle and humble in heart and then we will find rest, renewal, blessed quiet for our souls (Matthew 11:29).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

“I pray you will experience rest, renewal and blessed quiet for your soul today.” <>< Dona
