In Deuteronomy 17 the Israelites were told: to not worship other gods; how to handle crime, and how to appoint a king. They were reminded twice to “purge the evil from among them” (verse 7 and verse 12).
In Deuteronomy 18 the Israelites were told to “not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations” they were entering (verse 9-11). They were told to “be blameless before the Lord” their God (verse 13).
In Deuteronomy 19 the Israelites were told “to love the Lord (their) God and to walk always in His ways” (verse 9). They were told again in verse 19 to “purge the evil from among (them).”
Oh! Wow! Lord You are truly a holy God who wants us to be holy too.
Something to think about
The appointed king was given a personal copy of the law (Deuteronomy 17:18-20). The king was to learn to revere God and follow carefully all the laws and decrees.
Something to experience
We believers have a copy of God’s laws and decrees and much more in the Bible. We too are expected to learn to revere and follow after God and His Word.
