In Deuteronomy 1-2 Moses speaks of God’s faithfulness.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord You never stopped traveling with the Israelites.  Even though Deuteronomy 1:2 stated that the trip from Horeb to Kadesh should have taken just eleven day. Their exodus from Egypt to Canaan should have been a whole lot shorter than 40 years, but You never gave up on or deserted them.

Something to think about

So it wasn’t distance that stood in the Israelites’ way, it was the condition of their hearts.  It took 40 years to prepare the Israelites to live in obedience to God. The journey was a painful but necessary part of their preparation.

Personal

I too was disobedient for many years.  I experienced pain, discouragement and difficulties during those wilderness years. It took me over 35 years to reach my promised land.  I am so thankful God never gave up on me either.

Something to experience

Our own spiritual pilgrimages may be lengthy.  We may face pain, discouragement, and difficulties. But remember God isn’t just trying to keep us alive, He wants to prepare us to live in service and devotion to Him.  Perhaps you to have traveled through the wilderness or are even now going through it.  God will never force you to follow Him.  God has given all of us the choice of denying Him or following Him.  I’ve already made my choice.  Have you?

Prayer

Lord help us to lean on You in all our the painful, discouraging, difficult trials in life (Proverbs 11:28; Hebrews 6:12).  During these times I pray we will know You are with us (Psalm 16:11).  And when we get to the other side of these situations I pray we will praise You and share with others what You’ve done (Psalm 117:2; John 16:33).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

In Deuteronomy 3 Moses speaks of God’s protection.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord You fought for the Israelites.

Something to think about

God had promised Joshua that He would fight for him (see Deuteronomy 3:21-29).

Something to experience

We too can experience God’s protection.  God can help us regardless of the problems we face.  No matter how insurmountable the obstacles may seem, remember that God is sovereign and He will keep His promises.

Prayer

Lord I pray we will sleep in peace for You alone make us dwell in safety (Palm 4:8).  Lord I ask You to be gracious and merciful to us.  I pray our soul will find shelter and safety in You.  I pray we will seek refuge with You and be confidently secure (Psalm 57:1).  Lord I pray You will never leave nor desert us.  I ask You to never relax your hold on us (Hebrews 13:5).   Lord I pray we will be strong and of good courage.  I pray we will neither fear nor be afraid of those who come against us for You are with us (Deuteronomy 31:6).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.
