In Numbers 31 God instructed Moses to take vengeance on the Midianites.
Response
Oh! Wow! Lord the Midianites were responsible for enticing the Israelites into Baal worship. Is that why You instructed Moses and the Israelites to destroy the Midianites?
Something to think about
I don’t understand the reason behind everything God did in the Old Testament. But I do believe God is good (Mark 10:18) and He wants to protect those of us who are seeking a relationship with Him (Psalm 73:28; Psalm 84:11). And according to both II Peter 3:9 and I Timothy 2:3-4 God wishes for no one to perish. He wishes for all of us to repent and trust in Him. But He does the future and He does know our heart (Genesis 2:9; Genesis 3:5; Psalm 73:1).
Something to experience
In situations I don’t understand, I trust God. I should not expect God to explain His behavior to me. I’m trusting God to do what is best in everything that I experience. I hope you will too. (F.Y.I. I do sometimes wonder why certain things are happening to innocent people. But I usually don’t dwell on it very long. I take the situation to God. I pray and ask God to help. Then I attempt to leave it in God’s hands and wait for any insight or instructions He might have for me concerning the situation.)
Prayer
Lord when situations come into our life that we don’t understand, I pray we will give them to You (Philippians 4:6; I Thessalonians 5:18; II Timothy 4:5). I pray we will take refuge in You and therefore experience Your blessings (Psalm 34:8). Lord I pray we will bear good fruit and continually do so throughout our life (Matthew 3:10). Thank You Lord for making all things work together as a good plan for those of us who love You and are called according to Your plan and purpose (Romans 8:28). Lord I pray we will not conform to this world and its superficial values and customs. I pray we will instead be transformed by the renewing of our mind so that we may prove what Your good, acceptable, and perfect will is (Romans 12:2). Lord I pray we will understand we are indeed Your children (Galatians 3:7). In Your Son Christ Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN.

In Numbers 32 three of the Israel’s tribes (Reuben, Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh) wanted to settle on land east of the Jordan River (just shy of the Promised Land).
Response
Oh! Wow! Lord the Israelites had been traveling for forty years to reach the Promised Land. Yet some of the Israelites decided to stay on the east side of the Jordan.
Something to think about
Moses jumped to the conclusion that these particular Israelites were just trying to get out of helping the other tribes to take over the Promised Land. But what Moses thought was proved to be wrong. All the Israelites worked together to conquer the Promised Land (west of the Jordan River). They finished the whole job, even those parts that may not have benefitted them directly.
Something to experience
Before jumping to conclusions about anyone’s motives we must find out all the facts. We shouldn’t automatically assume that their motives are wrong, even if their plans sound suspicious.
