In Numbers 15:22-36 the Lord explains to Moses the difference in unintentional and intentional sins.

Response

Oh! Wow! Lord thank You for being so understanding of the unintentional sins in our life and showing us we only have to repent and turn from them (Romans 3:22-24; I John 1:9).

Something to think about

From my Bible’s notes: Stoning a man for gathering wood on the Sabbath seems like a severe punishment and it was.  This act was a deliberate sin, defying God’s law against working on the Sabbath.  This man made the decision, deliberately chose, to do something he knew was wrong.

Something to experience

Many of our sins are unintentional or because we lack knowledge.   But once we know what is right and what is wrong behavior it becomes intentional sinning when we choose to go ahead and do something we know is wrong. Both our action and attitude need to be pure.

Prayer

Lord I pray as we seek to obey Your Word we will experience joy in our heart and enlightenment to our eyes (Psalm 19:8).  Lord I pray we will be able to stand in Your holy place because we’ve sought clean hands and a pure heart.  I pray we will not lift up our soul to what is false. I pray we will not be deceitful in our promises.  I pray we will receive a blessing from You, Lord.  I pray we will receive righteousness from You, the God of our salvation (Psalm 24:3-5).  Lord I pray we will exhibit lives of integrity, moral courage, and godly character and therefore see You (Matthew 5:8). Lord I pray we will think continually on, center our mind on and implant in our heart whatever is true, honorable, worthy of respect, right, confirming of Your Word, pure, wholesome, lovely, peaceful, admirable, of good repute, excellent, and worthy of praise (Philippians 4:8).  Lord I pray we will pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace with those believers who also call on You out of a pure heart (II Timothy 2:22). I pray we will approach You with a true and sincere heart in unqualified assurance of faith, having had our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water (Hebrews 10:22).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.

************************

In Numbers 16 more than two hundred and fifty Israelites rose up against Moses.  The leaders of this group may have assumed Moses, Aaron and his sons were trying to make the Israelite priesthood some kind of political machine.  These rebelling Israelites probably wanted to be part of the group they thought was in power.

Response

Oh! Wow! Even though over and over the Israelites experienced God providing and guiding them, this particular group of rebelling Israelites didn’t understand Moses’ main goal was to serve God not to govern and control the Israelites.

Something to think about

Do we ever look at someone in leadership and believe they are seeking their own desires?  Do we sometimes desire to be in leadership for our own gain?

Something to experience

Perhaps we need to concentrate on finding the special purpose God has for us instead of wishing we were in someone else’s shoes.  Obeying God should be our goal as it was Moses’.

Prayer

Lord I pray we will not look at our present problems and exaggerate them.  I pray we will have the right perspective on our present situation (Ephesians 6:12).  I pray we will keep our eyes on You so we will not hinder our relationship with You (Colossians 1:22). I pray we will not let difficulties make us lose sight of Your direction for our life (I Timothy 6:17; Titus 2:12). I pray in both our private life and our professional life we will commit ourselves 100% to following Your will, Your purpose and Your plan (Galatians 1:3-5; II Timothy 2:15).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.
