Jesus Tells About His Return

Matthew 24:26-35 (KJV) 26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, He (Christ Jesus) is in the desert; go not forth: behold, He is in the secret chambers; believe it not.  27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.  28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.  29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.  31 And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.  32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.  34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.  35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away.

Mark 13:24-31 (KJV) 24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, 25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.  26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.  2And then shall He send His angels, and shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.  28 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near: 29 So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.  30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.  31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but My words shall not pass away.

Luke 21:25-33 (KJV) 25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. 27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.  28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.  29 And He spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; 30 When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.  31 So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. 32 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. 33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but My words shall not pass away.

Jesus Tells About Remaining Watchful

Matthew 24:36-51 (KJV) 36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but My Father only.  37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.  38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.  40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.  41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.  42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.  43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.  44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.  45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?  46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.  47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.  48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; 49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; 50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, 51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Mark 13:32-37 (KJV) 32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.  33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.  34 For the Son of Man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.  35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: 36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.  37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

Luke 21:34-38 (KJV) 34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting (excessive desire) and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. 35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.  36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.  37 And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives. 38 And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.

Questions:

1.Who knows the day and the hour of Jesus’ return (Matthew 24:36; Mark 13:32)?

2.Why should we watch and pray (Matthew 24:42; Mark 13:33; Luke 21:36)?

Answers:

1.Jesus said only His Father knows the day and the hour of His (Jesus’) return.

2.We should watch, for we know not the hour our Lord will return.  And we should pray always, that we may be accounted worthy to escape all the things that shall come to pass and that we may be able to stand before the Son of man.

HEAR the WORD

Matthew 24:34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

MEDITATE on the WORD

The word “generation” caught my attention.  My Bible defines the word as ‘race’ not a certain number of years. I believe we’re still in this particular ‘generation.’

MEMORIZE the WORD

Matthew 24:36 “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but My Father only.”

Mark 13:26 “And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.”

LOVE and LIVE the WORD

To keep from being deceived by false messiahs, we must understand that Jesus’ return will be unmistakable.  No one will doubt that it is Jesus.

TEACH and SHARE the WORD

Tell others to watch and pray too.  They won’t have to be told that Jesus has come, it will be obvious to everyone.

PRAY the WORD

Lord, I pray we will indeed watch and pray for Your return (Matthew 24:42; Mark 13:33; Luke 21:36). Lord, I pray we will indeed be ready (Matthew 24:44).  In Christ Jesus’ name I pray.  AMEN.
