READ and STUDY the WORD
Jesus Tells The Parable Of The Yeast
Matthew 13:33-35 (KJV) 33 Another parable spake He (Jesus) unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. 34 All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake He not unto them: 35 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
Jesus Tells The Parable Of The Hidden Treasure
Matthew 13:44 (KJV) 44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
Jesus Tells The Parable Of The Pearl
Matthew 13:45-46 45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
Jesus Tells The Parable Of The Fishing Net
Matthew 13:47-52 47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: 48 Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. 49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, 50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 51 Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They say unto Him, Yea, Lord. 52 Then said He unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.
1. To what is the kingdom of heaven compared (Matthew 13:33)? Yeast.
Notes: Yeast is a symbol of growth in this parable. Yeast may seem like a minor ingredient, but it works its way through the whole lump of dough. Although the kingdom of heaven began small and almost invisible, it has enlarged and made a great impact on the world too.
2. To what is the kingdom of heaven compared (Matthew 13:44)? A treasure hidden in a field. Notes: The kingdom of heaven is more valuable than anything else we can find. We must be willing to give up everything to obtain it, just as the man in this parable did.
3. To what is the kingdom of heaven compared (Matthew 13:45-46)? A merchant looking for pearls. Notes: Though we may “accidentally” stumble upon Jesus we need to recognize the value quickly. The pearl was of great value, our faith is priceless.
4. To what is the kingdom of heaven compared (Matthew 13:47-51)? A fishing net. Notes: The kingdom of heaven has been let down to us here on earth. At the end of the age, when the net is full, the angels will separate the wicked from the righteous. The righteous will be collected and the wicked will be throw into the fiery furnace.
HEAR the WORD
Matthew 13:52 (KJV) Then said He unto them, “Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.”
MEDITATE on the WORD
Ponder the scripture above. Read it a few times. My thoughts: The Old Testament is the old treasure and the New Testament is the new treasure. We need both of them to have a balanced life.
MEMORIZE the WORD
Matthew 13:49 NIV “This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous.”
LOVE and LIVE the WORD
We are called to be fishers of men too. We are to obey God and tell others about His grace and goodness. But we don’t choose who will be part of God’s kingdom, only God can do that.
TEACH and SHARE the WORD
We need to hide God’s Word in our heart, but still share it with others.
PRAY the WORD
Lord, I pray we will understand the kingdom of heaven is like yeast that works it way through the body of dough (Matthew 13:33). Lord, I pray we will find the hidden treasures in Your Word and value all of it (Matthew 13:44). Lord, I pray we will value every pearl of wisdom we find (Matthew 13:45-46). Lord, I pray we will reach out to those around us and bring them into Your net. I pray they will be found to be righteous (Matthew 13:47-48). In Christ Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN.
“May you and I share our faith with those around us.” <>< Dona
