READ and STUDY the WORD

John Baptizes Jesus

Matthew 3:13-17 KJV  13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. 14 But John forbad Him, saying, I have need to be baptized of Thee, and comest Thou to me? 15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered Him. 16 And Jesus, when He was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Mark 1:9-11 KJV And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. 10 And straightway coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him: 11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Luke 3:21-22 KJV 21 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, 22 And the Holy Ghost (the Spirit of God) descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon Him (Jesus), and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art My beloved Son; in Thee I am well pleased.

1. Who came to John to be baptized (Matthew 3:13; Mark 1:9)? Jesus.

2. What did the Spirit of God do (Matthew 3:16; Mark 1:10; Luke 3:22a)? The Holy Spirit descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon Jesus.

3. What did God, the Father, say to His Son, Jesus (Matthew 3:17; Mark 1:11; Luke 3:22)? “Thou art My beloved Son, in Thee I am well pleased.”

HEAR the WORD

The word Trinity is never actually used in the Bible, at least not in the ones I’ve read.  But in the passages today the Trinity is revealed (Matthew 3:16-17; Mark 1:10-11; Luke 3:22).

MEDITATE on the WORD

All three persons of the Trinity were present at Jesus’ baptism? God, the Son, was baptized.  God, the Holy Spirit, descended on God, the Son.  And God, the Father, spoke to God, the Son. Why not ponder that for a while?

MEMORIZE the WORD

Luke 3:22 KJV And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon Him (Jesus), and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art My beloved Son; in Thee I am well pleased.

LOVE and LIVE the WORD

During your daily activities take time to point others to Jesus by your words and actions.

TEACH and SHARE the WORD

Why do you believe Jesus wanted John to baptize Him (Matthew 13-15)?  Before John baptized anyone, they had to repent.  But Jesus had no sin to repent.  Was Jesus standing in for you and me? Or was Jesus setting an example for us to follow? Perhaps it was a combination. Perhaps it was some other reason. Why not think about it?

PRAY the WORD

Lord, I pray we believers we continually please You.  I pray we will seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  And follow close after Your Son, Jesus (Luke 3:22). In His name I pray.  AMEN.
